Which of the Oscars afterparties had the best food: VF, Governors Ball or Madonnas?

I love talking about Oscars fashion. Like many of you, I log online the morning after awards shows to compare what everyone was wearing. (Natalie Portman’s Dior dress at the Golden Globes is still my favorite one from this season, with America Ferrara’s Versace Oscars dress as a close second.) But, there’s something else that I always wonder about but rarely hear discussed, and that’s the FOOD! It’s not so much that I want to creep on what celebrities are eating, it’s that you see so many pictures and hear so much about these award-related luncheons and events that I’m curious what’s served at these fancy occasions. All we ever consistently hear about is which award winners went to In-N-Out after a ceremony.

Well, thanks to Simu Liu, we know what was served at this year’s Oscars and the afterparties. Simu Liu took to both Threads and Twitter with not only the menus for the ceremony and three parties, but he also included his rating (out of 10) for each one. Kudos to him for making it to three afterparties, by the way. I would have been ready for bed after the first one.

In a recent Threads post, Simu Liu shared his thoughts on the food served at the Oscars ceremony and afterparties.

Oscars rating: 3/10. “Jimmy stashed some soft pretzels and Sour Patch Kids under our seats. It wasn’t glamorous but did its job,” he wrote.

The Governors Ball rating: 11/10. “This was insane. Wood-fired pizzas, paella, wagyu, sliders, PEKING DUCK?!? I did nothing but inhale food the whole time.”

Vanity Fair Oscars Party rating: 7/10. “Ah the infamous party with In-N-Out burgers on tap. Can’t go wrong.”

Madonna’s afterparty rating: 9/10. “Full spread of curry, rice, naan and samosas. I was simply too full lol.”

Sooo, thoughts on the food? Out of the four menus Simu shared and rated, which party would you have eaten the most at? I live on the East Coast, which means In-N-Out is still a novelty for me. I’m a fan (animal style all the way!), so I can’t disagree with his opinion that you can’t go wrong with it, especially at a party where everyone attending probably hasn’t eaten much since awards season started. I also do think it’s sweet that Kimmel would leave snacks under their seats. It’s a long ceremony and although people aren’t boozing it up like they are at the Golden Globes, having food always helps stave off boredom or keep you awake during a three-and-a-half-hour-ceremony. But all that said, I’d also go with the Governors Ball menu. I would be inhaling food all night like Simu was. I’d probably start with the sliders, taste some paella, chow down on wagyu, and finish with the wood-fire pizza at the end of the night.

Oh, and if you were wondering which famous person gets the headlines for enjoying their In-N-Out burger this year, it’s Steven Spielberg. Apparently Dr. Spielberg abides by the ole “camera eats first” rule.
