She’s the OG of the OC, that’s a certainty. Vicki Gunvalson is the ‘oldest’ and most seasoned housewife in the franchise seeing as how she is the only cast member from the Orange County cast to be part of the show every single season. Additionally, her franchise is the first to be shown on television. That makes her the sort of mama bear of the real housewives, and it’s something she really does love. She’s also not afraid to say what she thinks and to get a little bit crazy from time to time. She’s not always happy with the way that things work out with other housewives, and she’s one of the firsts to say what’s on her mind. With that said, she’s also someone who lives her life in front of a camera, but that does not mean that there is not plenty she doesn’t want made public. She’s not someone who wants to look bad for everyone, but there are some things in her life that she’s not jumping up and down to share with her viewers and fans.

Brooks has cheated on her

He admitted on tape several years ago that he’d cheated on her. Her friends and family had suspected this to be the truth for a while, but she did not believe it until she heard the tapes of him confessing that he’d had relationships with other women in the middle of his relationship with her. He’s since apologized and she has apparently forgiven him.

She cheated on Donn

For a long time, another housewife accused her of this and she denied it. That’s when she finally opened up and said that she has cheated on Donn, Donn has cheated on her and that they both went down a path that they should not have gone down. It turns out that she’s not excited that people have learned this about her, and she almost always refuses to talk about it.

Her first marriage ended badly

Donn was not Vicki’s first husband, nor is he the father of her children. She had been married previously to a man back east who made it his mission to verbally abuse her and their two children. He was an alcoholic, and she has no relationship with him now, and neither do her children. However, she still does not like to talk about it.

Her retirement wasn’t that impressive

When divorce information was leaked following the finalization of her divorce from Donn, it appeared that Donn was given the couple’s 401k account, and the amount in it was only $74,000. It seems that for someone who has an insurance company with so much success, she’d put more of an effort into her retirement, but she did not.

Her first husband was an alcoholic

Gunvalson is not proud of the fact that she was the kind of woman who allowed her husband to verbally abuse her, abuse substances and make her feel as if she was not good enough. When she made the decision to leave her first husband, she made the decision to come to Southern California and begin her insurance company so that she could live a much better life for herself and for her kids. She’s done a good job.

Her kids turned on her after her divorce from Donn

Vicki’s kids love Donn as their own father, since they don’t have a relationship with their actual father. They were hurt and angry when their mother decided to file for divorce from her husband, even though the rest of the world was not at all shocked after having watched them on television as long as we did. It seems that her kids were mad at her, and became closer to Donn during this time because they felt he’d been wronged by their mother.

She and her daughter are not that close

This is not to say that they do not love one another, but Vicki and her daughter have lost a bit of that loving feeling over the years. Briana feels that her mother is too controlling, that she made poor decisions and that by allowing Brooks to live in her house, she’s made the decision that her daughter and grandsons can’t even come to visit.

She’s furious about her daughter’s wedding

When her daughter announced to her in 2011 that she’d run away to Las Vegas with the boyfriend that her mother had never even met so that she could get married, it was not a good thing. In fact, it was terrible. It was just one more rift in their relationship that was unable to be fixed. Gunvalson doesn’t appear to be a big fan of her son-in-law, who does come across on television as being controlling and not all that nice to his wife or her family.

She chose her boyfriend over her daughter

It’s the truth; Gunvalson’s daughter told her mother that she did not want her mother to date Brooks, and she did it anyway. She did it behind her daughter’s back and then she told her daughter flat out that she loves him and wants to be with him, and that she doesn’t care what she thinks. This came after her daughter told her that she would not come near her if Brooks was in her life. Vicki chose her own happiness over the relationship she wants with her daughter.

Brooks was recorded saying awful things about her

There was a time when Brooks was drinking with Gunvalson’s son-in-law and said some horrible things that he recorded. These things included calling her names that we can’t even use here, and also telling him that he would beat her you-know-what. The recording was shocking, especially to Gunvalson, when it was played for her. However, she still made the decision not to leave him and not to allow that to change their relationship despite the circumstances of her first marriage and dissolution of her second marriage to a nice man.
